Kimm Walker and Her Son James

Kimm and son, James

KB Walker

Author, speaker, workshop leader, teacher

Born in Colorado on New Year’s Eve 1955, Kimm spent her childhood in Michigan. A ‘Mills and Boon’ romance, age 21, lead to marriage, life and a teaching career in Yorkshire.

As a child, becoming an author had seemed as likely as becoming a princess or an astronaut but aged forty-eight, Kimm left schools behind and set her mind to the dream. To date she’s had a poem, short stories and articles published, co-written two radio plays, won a handful of small prizes and been invited to speak and read at several festivals and events.

Kimm’s first published poem gives a flavour of what it’s like to have such an opportunity.

New clothes

Tucked high on a shelf,
Amongst memories and daydreams,
The gift I imagine
Brushing my fingertips,
Just out of reach,
Stretched to my limit -

To write.

Classes and clubs,
Books and exercises,
Practice and try.

But how do I acquire the skills
Of the Emperor’s tailors?
So that even if these words
Are the bare skin of my birthday suit,
Readers dare not scoff and point.

As an Associate Teacher of Literacy for Kirklees Education Authority, Kimm has led in-service training, as well as over twenty years of classroom teaching. Educating challenging children and stroppy adults, gives her an edge when leading workshops or delivering talks.

‘You should consider carefully how you wish to spend what time you might have left with James.’

When a mother faces the ultimate threat - the suffering and potential loss of her child - every human resource kicks in, including her faith. A Life Less Lost charts the author’s journey through white coats, misdiagnoses, endless appointments and more. KB Walker connects stories from her American childhood to the traumas that face her very English family to explain the hope that helps her hold her life together.

"[KB Walker] manages skillfully to get past all the surface religiosity to show what a relationship with God can look like in practical terms in a real, messy life. This is both a "good read" and a convincing testimony which cannot fail to provide consideration of how your faith works, everyday - and in crisis"
